So far I have found two of my ancesters who spent time on Prison Hulks.
One I believe managed to get back to land and the other was sent to Tasmania.
Prison Hulks were broken down warships that was used to house hundreds of prisoners.
Conditions were appalling, disease spread very quickly due to poor hygene and many prisoners died.
The sick lived with the healthy.
They had straw mattresses, food was very basic and poor, sometimes mouldy.
Many prisoners were flogged with a Cat o'nine talils.
